Selection Tool

Open Adobe Photoshop

Click on File > New > Blank File and set up a canvas as below:

*REMEMBER: Set “Preset Sizes” to CUSTOM!

Click and hold the “Marquee tool” and you have the “Rectangular Marquee Tool” or the “Elliptical Marquee Tool”.

OR you can use the “Lasso Tool”, by clicking and holding, which will give you options of either the “Lasso”, “Polygonal” or “Magnetic” tools.

Use the “Rectangular Marquee tool” to make some basic rectangular shapes.

AT THE TOP, make sure you select “Add to selection”.

Now, you can make them together as one shape by making a shape connecting it

Also, to add non-rectangular objects, such as flags, click and hold the lasso tool and select the Polygonal Lasso Tool.

BE SURE after you select the lasso tool; change the selection back to “Add to selection”.

Also, you can EXCLUDE from the selection by changing the mode from “Add to selection” to “Subtract from selection”

So, you can now create “holes” or excerpts in the object

You can add more details to the background by using the lasso tool, if necessary

When you are ready, use the “fill bucket”, to fill in the desired area.

When done, be sure to deselect the object by right-clicking on the object and going to “deselect”.
