Create a flyer using Microsoft Word that a travel agent could use to inform travelers about a specific country.

***When you save your work, name it "Travel Flyer" ***

1. Open up Microsoft Word (Blue icon with a white "W" - on the task bar). Click on the One Page button under the View tab.

2. Use Word Art to create a title for the country of your choice (Insert > Word Art). 

3. Pick a Word Art that is bold and easy to read. Type in the name of your country and press OK. Click on the Format tab, then the Text Wrapping button. Choose Behind Text. This will allow you to move your title to the position of your choice. You should also enlarge the image to make it stand out. 

4. Add a border

Go to the Design tab and click on the Page Borders button.

Scroll through the Art examples near the bottom of the window or the Style menu. 

Click on the Options button and make all of the margins say 10. Uncheck the "Always display in front" box as well. 

 

5. Add color or a Fill Effect as the background.

Click on Design > Page Color to add a color background 

6. Write at least one paragraph, in a Text Box, explaining why people should visit the country you chose.

Click Insert > Text Box > Draw Text Box, then click and drag to open the text box. This is where you will write your paragraph.

Click on the text box. Go to the Format tab. Click on the Shape Fill or choose from the examples in the Text Box Styles box by clicking on the bottom arrow next to the far right example.

7. Insert clip art and pictures

The website that pictures are obtained from need to be put into a text box at the bottom. Please make it small and discrete and it needs to match the paragraph text box.

You need to put at least one non-rectangular or square graphic, or drawing, in your project (Look at the Totem Pole in the example).

To insert the graphic, go to Insert > Online Pictures and search for graphics that go with your country (i.e. France = the Eiffel Tower, Mexico = a sombrero, China = the Great Wall of China, etc.). MAKE SURE THE IMAGE DOES NOT HAVE A BACKGROUND. When searching for your graphic, put "clip art" in the search (i.e. the Eiffel Tower Clip Art).

***If the image you chose has a background you can use Remove.bg or try selecting the photo, then go to Format > Remove background. Make sure the entire image is select "Keep Changes".

Remove.bg - You can upload or click and drag an image onto the site. Once the background has been taken out you can download a lower resolution image for free. Go to File > Insert > Picture and navigate to your Downloads folder to add it to your document. 

Photographs - At Least 4 Photographs (Maps and flags DO NOT count)

To find pictures go to Google Images and search for your country or for things that your country is famous for (i.e. France = the Ifle tower, Mexico = the sombrero, China = the Great Wall of China, etc.) When you have found a picture that you want to use, copy the URL (the website address - i.e. www.mexico.com) and paste it into your flyer in a text box at the bottom.

Copy the picture, go back to Word, then right click again and select paste. 

Moving the Pictures

Click on the picture and go to the Format tab, then click on the Text Wrapping button and click on the In Front of Text option. This will allow you to move your picture to the position of your choice.

Picture Borders

Rectangular or square pictures need to have borders around them (Double click on the picture. Go to the Picture Styles tab.

Use consistent and matching colors and space your objects out evenly. Don't have too much empty space and don't overcrowd.

Turn in as a JPG file!

Click File > Save As (or Save a Copy if you are on Win 11). When the window pops up, select PDF where is says "Save as type" (under the name of the file). Turn this PDF into Canvas.
